Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon near Page, Arizona. I'll be that nmsmitth (Nathan Smith) has visited there . Touted as one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the west it is truly an experience to visit this Holy Navajo place. A slot canyon is a canyon, usually carved out of sandstone by raging waters and sand. Kind of like a giant sandpaper working over hundreds of years. Exposures inside of this slot are extremely long. Most of them at least one minute and some as long as two minutes. A tripod and flashlight are a must inside of this magical place. For more information about Antelope Canyon and other slot canyons of the west check out: http://www.amwest-travel.com/awt_antelope.html

Wow! This looks like it was done in a studio by Lucasfilm or something (Sorry Bob if you hate George Lucas.) It's so clean and crisp, and you positioned the sun perfectly to light the foreground elements while leaving the background in shadow. Then there are the colors ...

Wow, Robert. This is a piece of art. I remember oohing and aahing or David Meunch's photos of the slot canyons. I'm sure you know his work. This is as good as any of those. When will the coffee table book of Robert Humpert photos be off the press??? :)

Easily a 10/10. I would LOVE to see this in person, I can only imagine what it's like. Did you use said flashlight to illuminate the formations, or is that sunlight coming in to get that rock wall? Not that it matters much, the photo is excellent.

It is hard to conceive the size of this place...kinda wishing there was an object of some kind to show that. BUT the beauty in these swirls plus the light from above, is just fantastic!! I wonder when you went here. It is amazing to me there are places like this to capture and that we get to see them too even tho we didnt get to go there...thank you Robert..this is lovely!!

Time means nothing here. Geology is beautiful, I'd love to see it, but not in the rainy season ten as a photo and as a desktop. (that makes it a 20)

Oh My Gosh!!! For quite some time now, I have search for an image like this. Years ago I had been given a calendar with desert and canyon images and the beauty of it all was amzing. Thank you for sharing this lovely photo. Do you have any more like this one?

Magical stuff Bob...the way you lit this one from the inside just adds to how lovely the rocks and tones are.

An amazing capture of the tone qualities ... great use of light to illustrate the depth of the canyon. The angles formed by nature are so interesting and well captured by your itchy finger. ;)

Somehow I missed this one but I’m glad I’ve seen it now. It’s been a remarkable series I doubt we have anything quite like this wonderful place here in Australia. The sculptures and colours are simply amazing. What lighting did you use if any?

Very nice, the lighting on the right is a little harsh but you have taken a picture with an amazing amount of texture capture and the rest of the lighting is perfect. I really like the part of the photo where the shadows are starting to take over. Cheers!

I really love all your canyon pieces! Really beautiful shots! (=
If you want to try something a little different with the canyon shots you could kick the ground and the dust creates a really cool lighting effect. (=
