Charlene and I left the boys at the fifth Cottonwood lake and headed off and up to the sixth Cottonwood lake (approx 12,000 feet). After about an hour of boulder hopping and hiking we made it to the lake. The view was breath taking as seen in my image, Above the Timberline. On our way back down I mentioned to Charlene how cool it would be to see Bighorn Sheep. We had seen them a month earlier in Yellowstone, but have never seen them in California. As we continued down I spotted what I thought were deer in the rocks ahead of us. Charlen began counting and by the time she got to 9 I knew that we were not looking at deer. Low and behold it was a group of Bighorn sheep, ewes and lambs. We could not believe our good fortune. This is the first of three images I will share with you. Image was taken with a Nikon D2X body and a 100-300zoom lens. `

They blend right in! Did you break out that 600 f2.8 at any time?

They are so camouflaged against the granite Garrett. Great eye to spot them. They are a beautiful animal. Thanks for sharing.

Sharp shot Garrett. They are almost camouflaged against the rocks. Good study in textures as well with the trees, rocks, and animals. Contrasts well with the grassy area behind them! Good eye. Well worth the climb.
To my favorites it goes!
Thanks for sharing this with me :-)

I would agree that these Bighorn sheep blend in with the rocks. I also notice, especially with their faces, that they have a bit of a chiseled look, as if they were carved from wood. I really like the natural colours and all the different textures. Beautiful capture Garrett!
