I was at my son's soccer game Saturday. The team wasn't doing very well. I found myself starting to wander around and I began noticing animals. It figures, huh.LOL. Anyway, I found this huge Praying Mantis on the side of a tree. Halloween was in the air and I began to think how much this critter could look like a space alien....

He blends so well, I may have missed him completely. Wonderful textures, details and colors of both it and the tree. Can definitely imagine him being a sci-fi creature.

Aren't these kritters just awesome?!! I love how some of his legs look like crab legs...and then there is that prehistoric look about him. He's sure been around a long time I guess. These are so ugly and yet so very interesting. And, yes, he blends so well with the background, good thing ya didn't step on him! Nice nice closeup. A great photo to send to some newspaper or magazine and see if they'd enjoy publishing it! Bravo on this wonderful photo. Verena

Great shot of this little guy. I did notice that the camera has focussed on the body rather than on the head, where I think you usually want the image to be sharpest. Of course you can never tell until you look at it on the monitor and by then it's too late to take another.
