The Hooded Merganser can only be described as elegant. This beautiful bird and its mate are currently residing in a stream that runs along the lake at my favorit spot. They have arrived at about the same time for the past three years. They will move on in the next few weeks but for now, I am enjoying their beauty. The image was taken with a 600mm f4 lens, an iso setting of 250, at 1/60 sec, f8. No compensation. And ofcourse a tripod.

The lens really brings out the detail in this Hooded beauty Garrett. The reflection is stunning as well. It doesn't get any better then this.

Outstanding photo love that yellow eye and that black stripe it makes the bird stand right out.I would think it would make it a target for birds of pray.Thanks for sharing.Plus am i right these are diving birds.

Fantastic in every way! What perfect complimenting colors reflecting in the stream. Very cool reflections his stripe makes a chevron shape. Elegant indeed, even the way they glide.
