This Bullocks Oriole is sitting on the branch of a burned out Laurel Sumac bush. The Chapparral plant community is a fire adapted community, meaning it needs fire to thrive and be healthy. If fires occur in normal intervals they do not get so hot as to burn the root crown of the bush. Shoots then sprout from the base of the burned out bush after the fire. You can see a new lush bush in the background. Orioles are another of our summer visitors.

A really beautiful bird Garrett and a wonderful composition!! Fabulous post!! Really love the contrast with the orange bird and the blackened branches of the bush. That along side the soft background all adds up to a fabulous and pleasing image!! Thanks for sharing:)

What a beautiful photo of a most gorgeous bird! What a colour! Taking this photo of him sitting on that particular tree branch is the perfect setting. If I could I would certainly do a canvas painting of this lovely sight. Thanx so much. Verena

Such a beautiful and flamboyant bird! I love how the orange and black markings contrasts with that of the lush greens and charred tree! Before reading your narrative, I immediately thought that the tree took on the look of charcoal... I now understand why. I also like what the red vines bring to the image... very tropical. Superb details, focus and composition as usual, Garrett! I love it! Saved + faved.
