Practice Flight ............The Bounce

Last night I shared the start of flight with you. Basically the bird opens its wings, a breeze or wind passes through and the bird feels lift. Think about it, you hatch without any feathers at all, and you spend all of your time moving around the nest with your wings extended for balance. Time passes and your feathers slowly come in and then one day you are moving around the nest with your wings extended (as you always do) and a strong gust lifts you. It has to be a little frigtening. You most certainly don't want to fall out of the nest. How would you get back????? This keeps happening and eventually you get used to it and suddenly you want more. So now you try a little bounce or jump. This time you really get some lift. In fact you get so much lift you are almost blown off the nest. Have to control that.... This continues until the urge for the biggest bounce (flight) exceeds the fear of falling off of the nest..... and away you go!!!!! Now if you only knew how to land......

Looks like a touch and go pattern as well Garrett. What a great find Garrett. Sparrows aren't that interesting on the nest. That's about all I can find around here.

Oh, all three with excellent focus. Love those extended claws and dramatic pose. Very much enjoyed the informative narrative. Amazing too, considering how high their nests are compared to many. Saved to enjoy more.

Great action shot Garrett - the two on the nest look as though they are discussing his progress.

This is so cool. It must be a real blessing to see these youngsters grow and leave the nest. A great capture.
