This immature Coopers Hawk is hidden among the branches waiting for an unsuspecting bird or rodent. Built to manuver these birds chase other birds through the branches and thickets in their pursuit of a meal. Watching one of these time bombs fly through the underbrush is an amazing site as they turn and dip. I feel so fortunate to have been able to watch this bird for the past month or so.

Really well done on the technical fronts, Garrett.

And I do recall the adventure and travails (of love) that your photo, namely; "Class of 2009" entailed.

Have to forgive me for employing the same descriptor as I did prior ... however, 'stunning' more than fits the commenting bill once more.

Caveats?

I am guessing that you tried to maintain an aspect ratio for use as a desktop. And will forgo making mention of a crop.

Handsome bird. Great shot.

And but of course, thank you for sharing this one with us. :o)

p.s. Happy New Year to you and yours. Here's to a year of health, wealth and most definitely ... some happy shooting for you. :o)

We're fortunate, too, sir, that you were able to capture this image and share it with us. The depth of field is perfect with the soft lines of the branches enclosing him, a truly "wild" shot, exactly as I've seen these birds of prey in the winter river bottoms here. We're also fortunate that you've got the use of your long lens down pat.

I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.
