This year we don't have very many geese at the refuge. I have my suspitions why, but I am not sure. The geese are in the valley in large numbers. They are just not coming to the refuge. Many so called photographers are walking to the side of the lake that is off limits, with the hopes of getting a closer shot. The birds used to congregate there and felt safe. The encroachment of the photographers has removed that feeling of safety. The birds no longer group there and have moved off to bodies of water where they feel safer. It is a shame. You would think that someone with a camera photographing wildlife would know better and would follow the rules. I am sure that these people feel like they are friends to wildlife, but they have caused these birds to change their patterns. I have been visiting this refuge for 10 years and it has only been the last couple that photographers have started to go to that side of the refuge. Now the birds are gone. I have not even seen one White Pelican this year. It really is a shame. Keep out signs are posted clearly, but I guess a camera means that it does not apply to them. Sorry for the rant but it had to be said.

A great shot of the two of them swimming together.
