As if it is not enough to have battle other females and marauding gulls, the new mothers have to deal with young males that sneak up onto the beach with the hopes of sneaking a quick poke. The young male in this image has made it up onto the beach without attracting the attention of one of the older and much larger males (beachmasters). He is now blundering through the colony upsetting the status quo as he searchs for an unwilling partner. It is still too early for the females to enter estrous, so most of the older, larger and established males ignore his presence. Only the mothers protest his intrusion as space is tight and their newborn pups are endanger of being squashed.

Darn the bad luck of this fellow. I really like this one. As in all of your captures it is nature at its best. Great colors and details.

His name must be Gus. I remember Gus on Lonesome Dove was always looking for a Poke. Excellent clarity once again Garrett. Nice series you have started.

Typical young men always looking for some 'tail'. A great shot of these seals.
