I was photographing a Great Horned Owls nest (that last year was a Coopers Hawk nest). Out of the blue an immature Coopers Hawk showed up and began mobbing the nest. As tasty as the owlets might have been, I think that the advantage was in the Great Horned Owl's favor. The hawk would land within 6 feet of the nest but never made an attempt to snatch an owlet. This went on for a long while and then the hawk flew off to a tree maybe 100 meters away. I followed the hawk and set my tripod up. I was able to catch it launching itself for another attack on the nest.
