Formerly called the Red Shafted Flicker, Northern Flickers used to be fairly common in the San Fernando Valley. Today, not so much. This one was photographed on our trip to Arizona this past weekend.
This looks like one lage woodpecker Garrett and you captured him or her and would hazard a guess it a him superbly with outstanding detail and stunning natural colours and again spot on presentation .Plus lovely backdrop with the blue grey like sky it sure makes the colours in the bird pop.also love the the sharp light in the eye as well.
I don't know how you manage to do it, Garrett, but you always find the most wonderful birds and animals to photograph. This is stunning - I love the flicker's markings, they are so beautiful and the tree stump is gorgeous. (Audubon killed and stuffed his subjects to photograph. You accomplish the same and leave them alive in the wild. You are to be commended Garrett.) Thank you for sharing. Fav'd & Sav'd
Wowsie, Spectacular shot and detail plus clarity are bang on. I haven't seen them around here in last few weeks mostly already migrating south. Most of the time here they would be on the ground look for bug and whatever.
Right into my favs, I've never been able to get such a fabulous shot of one.
