The young male elephant seal in the water is cruising in the surf. He is watching for an opportunity to come ashore and poke a female, (if you know what I mean.....). The large beach masters on the shore sleep with one eye open. They do not want these young males to come ashore and poke the females in their harem. Some will inevitably succeed with the dirty deed. That is where some of the drama begins. See you next week.

Gus, from Lonesome Dove, (see my avi) was always getting a poke, Garrett.

People are like cameras--sometimes they lose focus.
I love how you managed to get the creature staring straight at you and I love the detail and textures in this photo and the churning sea .Plus the light is amazing in this photo and the angle you took this photo from too.
