These females are some of the more dominant. Notice the sand is dry and not wet. They reside between the surf and cliffs. You would think having prime real estate and a dominant bull would make everything great, but nooo!!! They fight over almost everything;a pup other then their own wanders too close, young bull chases them into another one's turf. Just about anything sets them off. Having this location is very important. They are less likely to have the high tide wash their pup away. It is more difficult for a young male to reach them. This means that these females have a better chance of raising their pups to maturity, passing their genes on. So even the females fight to retain their place in the order of things.

The pup is really cute...doesn't quite know what to make of the squabble! Nice one.

The little one looks as if it is tired of having to put up with all the fighting. I love the expression on it's face.

Like I said before Garrett, "ocean front property" is desired by all. The pup really adds nice contrast to the "bickering" ladies.
Another fine addition to your series.

Very nice clean shot of these guys! One of the most rewarding parts of photography is, taking a shot, and later once viewed at home realizing how great it is. Elephant seals are not as slow and laid back as many think. And they do make a racket!

Long before the white man and long before the wheel, when the dark green forests were too silent to be real. Light foot 1967
