I am pretty sure this is a Great Egret...but I could be wrong on this identification. This bird was in a swamp area along the shores of Lake Erie. There is a fair amount of water birds in this swamp area. As always, thanks in advance for viewing and comments..

There is a lot Im like about this The surrounding aquatic plants near the bird compliment it. Therefore I would think it better to have cropped this composition in closer so the bird would show up more. Secondly, animals need a eye. The camera failed to capture the eye of this bird-so what can do? We can give him one by sampling a black area of the photo (or orange) with the tiniest area of selection possible and clone the selection right where the eye should be. That's what I did in Bubbas Swamp Tours where the bird is riding on the bull's back. This composition has a lot of potential and is still nice as it is.

I don't know birds, but from my bird guide, he does look like a Great Egret. This shot has an asian look, possibly because they use the graceful bird in their paintings. I like the diagonal appeal of the water contrasted with the upright grasses in the lower right corner. I love the composition and I thought Pat's suggestion about the eye a good idea.

Love the composition here Gerry along with the great egret. The expanse makes him a little distant to see perfectly clearly but certainly shows the environment with the grasses and the swampy waters and gives 'a feel' that he is 'home' for the moment. It's a very nice post and glad you shared it.

How exciting to see such a beautiful bird Gerry and a very nice capture of him! I think you need to show him off more by cropping just a little from the left and the top, otherwise perfect shot. The grasses make a lovely foreground too. Patti

I like this one! The egret looking out like that at the expanse and the soft colors create a definite mood. It almost looks surreal. You've composed this very well with the grasses that compliment the bird. Great work Gerry!

A nicely stately bird is this. The white of its feathers is very beautiful.
