This is a picture of a Mother Great Horned Owl with one of her chicks in the nest. Myself, and other people, have been looking for past weeks for this nest at Nature Preserve. It was found this past week, but not by myself. This nest is at least 40 feet high in tree and I have tried from different angles around tree to get clear shot but can't get shot without branches being in picture. I must say also it is an honor for me to witness this. I have been told that their is two chicks in nest. I hope to get better pictures in next few weeks as chicks will venture out of nest onto branches around nest. I read that they will have their downy feathers for about a month and don't begin to fly till then. Used Nikon D50 camera with Tamron 70-300mm lens set at 240mm Shutter set at 1/250 aperture F/8 and ISO at 800...image has been cropped and enhanced in editor..

Love the birds, Mr. P, and I hope that you're there to witness the chicks growing and send us some more.

How really sweet. There are so many new babies on Caedes. Forty feet is really high up!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

This is a great shot Gerry, they are so cute and they look somewhat sleepy to me, or just angry? :)

You sure are fortunate on this - I have never been able to see an owl nest, let alone see one with an adult and young! You did a great job of capturing them and the branches are fine - they actually seem to give the picture more depth. They also show how well protected this nest is, although I suspect the adults would do just fine in that department!
Thanks for a great addition to my bird folder!
