Took this a couple of days back at a city park. These two World War 2 planes are on display for a dedication to all the men and women from the Royal Canadian Air Force from this area that gave their lives during World War 2. The rear plane is a Spitfire and the near plane is a Hurricane. I know the Spitfire was prominent in The Battle Of Britain in 1940. I am not really sure if the Hurricane was used at this time..

Beauty of a shot ! Yes those are some famous planes you got here.
Regarding the Hurricane, it was produced in much larger numbers, specialy at the start of the war, and they where prominent during the battle of brittain in much larger numbers than the Spitfire was. Only...the spitfire was more loved by the large crowds and got the fame, while the hurricane did most of the work.
The same goes for the American B17 Flying Fortress, allthough the B24 Liberator was the workhorse, the B17 got the fame. Thanks for sharing the image !

Don't make any sense to add anything to your narrative and the comment of Hans as I think you both gave the major information. Both stories and image are very interesting. Thanks. Regards, Cornelius

I love the angle and the positioning of the planes in the picture. You also captured a great looking sky, and autumn colors as well. Great picture, Gerry.

Lovely picture. You do the planes a service and the memories of the men who flew them.

Two classic British war planes Gerry
It's never nice to be reminded of wars but these two played a very important role.
The great truth is concealed though because the HURRICANE was most active, and more widely used than than the Spit. Having a wooden fuselage, and canvas skin it was very quickly repaired, and returned back to the airfields. It also had a large comfortable cockpit unlike the Spit, but with the fuel tank in the nose it caused many a grim death to the unfortunate pilots !! :o(

Hi Gerry, the Hurricane had more kills in the BoB than any other fighter, the Spit was a fantastic looking plane I will agree, and that why it got so much of the limelight, but the H was tougher, more guns, and a good speed....anyway, great photo m8, also, you can find 2 like this at ' Biggin Hill, in Kent, the main fighter base back in WW2.

Kind regards,

Winston Truman DFC.

Nice to see that the old WW2 plane has been replaced, haven't been to that park in some time. I like the angle that you captured the planes at and the colours are perfect. Nice shot and I might have to take a trip there seeing as I live pretty close. :)
