This picture was taken this past Spring. A friend of mine and myself went for a ride around county and I made sure I went to Big Creek. It is a creek that flows down into Lake Erie..next to a conservation area...it always has birds!! Anyways, this morning there was a flock of these Mute Swans in creek. It was very overcast day with fog. I read in my bird book that these Mute Swans were introduced to North America from Europe in the 1900's and are now commonly seen in ponds, parks and in the wild...it also says they can be aggressive.

Like I said "Great series you have going and they need to be in a book." Clarity, narrative, composition and framing are just excellent.

Hi Gerry,
If they are mute, they must be quietly aggressive, huh? LOL. Like Tick said, this is a great series you are presenting, and is worthy of an exhibition somewhere. Very nice.

Great exposure, Gerry. I love the composition on this with the swan placed on the right and the reflectio included. Yes, they can be quite aggressive. These are the ones that have a most elegant pose with the wings up, but really it's a threat posture, they're trying to make themselves bigger. Give them thier room, they can break limbs, beautiful as they may be.

Hard to think of them as being dangerous, as beautiful as they are, but I'll be sure to watch out if ever I get so lucky as to be near one!!!

I love swans and this one looks very regal and majestic floating there. I didn't know there were so many different types.

Aggressive, indeed. The older, the nastier the temperament. Love the detail you captured in this loner.

A beautiful picture Gerry. The shiny water and the white of the swan look almost dreamlike.

I was wondering if they really are mute so googled and found this
"The phrase swan song refers to this swan and to the legend that it is utterly silent until the last moment of its life, and then sings one achingly beautiful song just before dying; in reality, the Mute Swan is not completely silent, but has a kind of guttural warning call it will give when approached."

Really nice shot, Gerry, and something a little different in the framing. Interesting info provided by you and Eve.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Nice shot of this swan. Looks like he's stretching to see something. Lovely framing again.
