Contiueing the story...I pulled into parking lot of Nature Preserve and was about to take Hanna, my dog, for a walk and thought I should maybe see if I could get better pictures of this Hawk with camera mounted on tripod...so grabbed my camera and tripod and went down trail to tree he was perched in. As I approached the tree I noticed he was not there so I was looking in trees in vicinity to find him...As I got to tree he was perched in before, still looking up, I heard rustling in grass and looked down and there he was at base of tree trying to dig out a field mose...no more than 5 feet from me. I set my tripod as close to ground as I could and took some pictures of him...but unfortunatly he flew away...without mouse. When i got home and looked at these pictures in my computer I got goosebumps as every picture I took of him he had this intensive look in his eye of a predator eyeing prey. I felt I was allowed into his world for one brief period. I also learned from this that this nature photography requires tremendous patience and a knowledge of the subject in order to not disrupt its normal life...If i would have approached this a little different I would have got the pictures I wanted and he would have got the mouse...

No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

What a great story and a fine nature photo. So sharp and well focused. I like it even with the grass in front of his face, you can still see that expression.

Excellent Gerry. I can feel the excitement of your hunt in the narrative. Good job. I can see why you were excited after looking at photo. Excellent. Something about capturing them in the wild that makes it more special. It's nice to photograph them in their own environment.

Ah ha...I was right. He was eyeballing dinner in the first picture. This picture is almost as good as the first. The soft colors in this are very pleasing to the eye. Another great shot, Gerry.

Gerry, I've said it to you before that this nature photography requires tremendous patience. You added 'knowledge of the subject in order to not disrupt its normal life'. I agree with that. The result is stunning! Great work!

Excellent capture of this red-tail Gerry & I could feel your excitement in your story. I see these hawks every day around my home but haven't been able to get close enough to them & "patience" is the key word. Wonderful detail & clarity. Off to the faves it goes.
