This is another picture of a Red Tailed Hawk taken about a week ago. I am pretty sure it is the same Hawk that has been hanging around the Nature Preserve for last few weeks. This bird is unusual for me in the fact that I have been able to get quite close to it to take pictures. My previous experience of taking pictures of Hawks is that when I get closer they fly away...this one does not. The only thing I can think of why he is not flying away as I get closer is that he could have migrated here from the far north woods where there is no humans or very few and is naive about human presence.

I just hate dirty cutlery !! A mistreated dog should try to leave a deposit on their masters best carpet, after all it's important to establish who's boss..... My gallery is here.

A super shot Gerry - not just the hawk - the branches and backgound are so well done as well. Love it :)

I see these regularly on Long Island ... but always in flight ... never perched. They definitely are not easy to approach. Love the glance over the shoulder you captured Gerry. Nice clarity even in a full screen view. The tangle of limbs surrounding the bird is quite fascinating. Could have done without the one that cuts across his back ... but you take what you can get ... and you took it good my friend. Great shot.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

I think he stays put, because he thinks you are going to give him a birdie biscuit. You not only got a great shot of the Hawk, but that limb he is perched on is pretty interesting the way it curves. Great capture, Gerry.
