I was fortunate to observe this female Belted Kingfiser at the pond in Nature Preserve yesterday...and VERY fortunate to get her picture. I know from last Spring and Summer found them very skittish around human presence. They certainly have striking colors and interesting body design. They are fun to watch them fishing as they eat fish and amphibians. The frost has left the ground and Ice has left the pond and the bush is coming alive with returning birds and hibernating critters coming out...it makes it quite exhillirating to walk through the bush!!

I've never seen one of these "in person" and so of course never so close up. I love the look and I'm so glad you are able to "sneak" up on birds so well, Mr. P!

Oh I am so jealous Gerry, Kingfishers are my favourite birds and I have never been able to capture one on film, so obviously have to fave this one. Great capture.
