Took this picture of Blue Jay two weeks back. I have a little story about Blue Jays if you will bear with me. About two months back I was at bird feeder station in Nature Preserve with a another young photographer taking pictures of the songbirds gathered here. We were talking about birds when we heard a Hawk call and we both immediately scanned the treetops looking for Hawk as all songbirds flew away EXCEPT the Blue jay..could not see a Hawk. About 5 to 10 minutes later heard the Hawk call again and birds flew away except Blue Jay..we could not locate Hawk then either. So a little while later it happen again and then we realized the sound of Hawk was coming from Blue Jay..I never knew this about them but researched them and found they are noted for doing this...the only reason I can think of is so that they have the food all for themselves...found this interesting.

Sure it's a Blue Jay and not a parrot Gerry? lol.
Beatiful picture and a wonderful story of a very inventive bird. The story did me really smile.

At first I thought you were shooting in my back yard. The pair of jays have returned this year, but the old maple died and had to be cut down. Maybe they can talk the squirrels into sharing the red oak.

Beautiful shot. In another month, you can shoot the furry little black blue jays.

Well, you learn something new everyday, and I had never heard that they could double as mocking birds!

What a great shot you got of this merry trickster. I love the background and the clarity on the bird is 100 percent.

Great focus on this Blue Jay, you are right, when they land near my feeder, they scream, scaring away the other birds. Thank you for letting everybody know that info.

The sun has cast some bold shadows here Gerry but you still got lucky
Seems this Blue Jay's a smart cookie, people often underestimate just how clever some creatures are !!
Neat narrative, & upload well done.
