Early Morning Light

For the past week I have been checking out a pond in a city park near the Nature Preserve that I frequent looking for returning birds that are migrating North. Early last week as I first drove near this pond just after daybreak I would see this pair of Mallard Ducks perched on this log near edge of pond. I took pictures each morning of them but did not get effect I wanted...till the morning I took this shot. This morning The sun had just been up for no more than 15 minutes and it had been cool the night before. The white you see on log is frost. The conditions were just right for this shot. Yesterday morning I took a walk around pond without my camera and just my binoculars and counted four Female Canada Geese nesting...so should be a lot of Goslings around in a few weeks...providing they all survibe.

Excellent clarity on this duck, Gerry. The log in the water really adds to the shot. Very nicely done.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

Good lord, just what does a photographer have to do to get a reasonable c-index rating on this site? Instead of a 74 this photo should be in the 90s. It's truly exceptional.

I couldn't agree with the comment above more. Great shot Jerry, you took something ordinary and turned it into something spectacular. Composition in this is terrific and the reflections in the surface of the water are something else.

Ya gotta love that early morning light. I like to refer to it as "golden time". A spectacular shot and into my favs as well. I agree with the C-index comment - I've seen some recent issues too. It makes ya wonder if someone out there is sandbaggin' the scores... No matter, the post speaks for itself and I'm so glad you shared this one.

Great shot! At first, I thought it was the ducks reflection.
Very nice. :-)
