I am pretty sure this is a Yellowjacket Bee. Took this a couple of weeks back. They are quite prominent around this time of year. They do have a good stinger though as I have on occasion been stung by these guys over the years....but only when I disturb them...most of time I am amongst them they do not bother me.

Bees and wasps are among my least favorite things in this world.. but at the same time, make some of the most fascinating subjects in photos. This shot would be an example of that. To echo Rick's words, superb detail and clarity, indeed. In addition, I think the color here is dead on. Nice one.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

Simply awesome! But it isn't a Yellojacket. They don't collect pollen. This is likely a honeybee. If you google the images of the two you will see what I mean. Having said that, this is again ...Simply awesome!

Another great nature shot, Gerry. I love the clarity and the bright colors, as well as the subject. I think bees are hard to photograph because of the fear factor....I hate getting stung.

The yellowjacket is a predatory wasp. It eats other insects, would not have the slightest interest in a flower. This is a really great photo of a bee though.
