Here's another snag from my float down the Rhein. The castle is above the village of St. Goarshausen, and was built around 1371. Napoleon bombed it 1806 and it was rebuilt in the late 1800s. Along the Rhein; June, 2018.

Ted, thanks for this very fine photograph showing us Sankt Goarshausen with its Castle Katz and the Loreley rock in the Rhineland-Palatinate,Germany. Die Loreley is located on the eastern bank of the Rhine.

Like to provide you with this link with this appropriate music.

PS: 'Die Loreley' is a figure from German literature that, among other things, has been immortalized in the poem by Heinrich Heine, as sung above. The nymph who with her song distracts skippers from the dangerous rapids at the rock of the same name, made her first appearance in the Lore Lay by Clemens Brentano in 1801.

For all it's medieval austerity and beauty, on top of the mount behind it is a very modern installation--an elementary school--and in the far right bottom there is a tower sliced in half by the photo frame--the Loreley Museum. The view from up at the castle must be incredible.
