Took a leisurely week to drive up the Oregon coast early last month and one morning at low tide was able to snag shots of this ghost forest. The Sitka Spruce stand had been on a hillside and about 2,000 years ago an earthquake from the subduction zone off the coast caused it to be buried for centuries until a series of storms in the 1990s gradually uncovered them. The tall ones seen here are almost 9 feet (3 meters) tall and covered in barnacles, muscles, and starfish you can see at low tide. You can learn more here. Neskowin Beach State Park, Neskowin, Oregon, USA.

Perfect composition of this phenomenon, Ted. The somewhat hazy background adds to the beauty of this intriguing scene, while the dramatic sky is the well known cherry on top of the cake.
Thanks too for the link, providing us with more detailed information about the remains of an ancient, cataclysmic destruction.

While returning from Yellowstone National Park on Sunday (it was okay but I like Glacier better... less people), my wife and I were discussing trips we'd like to take in the future. Her top choice was driving down the west coast from Washington to Southern California. I just showed her this image and she was quite wowed. With this sort of scenery on tap out there, we may be visiting the west coast sooner than later, particularly if I show her any more of your photos. And by the way, it's a wow from me, too.

Very interesting find. Totally amazing how nature has transformed itself and morphed for eons and we only see a fraction of a second of the whole event.
