I've no idea what bird this is, but it was pretty enough for me to spend twenty minutes chasing it around the "Away With The Fairies" hostel's garden in Hogsback, South Africa. Unsurprisngly, it just wouldn't stay still, which makes life difficult as I have an ancient, manual Minolta camera.

It looks like it was worth the effort though, this is a crisp, colourful picture and I like it a lot.

Great shot! I think its a bird of the fly catcher species. Could tell by the shape of the beak. Definitely not a humming bird...not slender enough to be.... :-)

I think some people might want to critique this photo based on not being able to see the bird completely, but I think it's what makes this such a great photograph; you have to search for the bird just as much as you did to actually create the photo. The depth of field matches up very well with the lighting. You have a great parallel contrast working in your favor. That said, I would love to see the bird a little less exposed but perhaps that's personal preference.
