Texture is correct, my good fellow. Now this is the perfect candidate for the black and white effect. I'm herding him into my animal file, and perhaps he needs a special place in the black and white category as well. Hmm...wonder why there isn't a black and white gallery here. Thanks for sending out this super job!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being.

This is just such a classic photo...the focus on the eye is absolutely perfect and the B&W gives it that much more emotion. Such a professional and well done piece...pleased to add it to the favs!!
Sorry to all...I haven't been commenting as much as I would like to lately. I'm a 9 to 5er again (actually more like 8:15 to 7:30 these days!!) Don't worry, I still see all of your wonderful posts, if only for a second.
For this generation, ours, life is nuclear survival, liberty is human rights, the pursuit of happiness is a planet whose resources are devoted to the physical and spiritual nourishment of its inhabitants. - Jimmy Carter
Elephants are one of my favorite animals. The elephant seems to be looking straight into you. As if he knows. And the texture is amazing. I really appreciate your photographs. And I enjoyed your gallery. Please keep showing more.
So how long, exactly, have you been shooting for National Geographic? It's as good or better than most I've seen in the magazine, and I've been a subscriber for about 25 years. Amazing!
This is a great shot! I'm an Alabama Crimson Tide fan... you should really consider trying to sell this shot to some of the distributors of their merchandise... The Elephant, especially a shot like this that you can see the power in the creature's eye, is just what they're looking for. Great job!
Seeing it again, featured on the home page, I had to look again and this time noticed that large bug flying in front of the elephant's eye, close enough to almost swat it with his (her?) eyelash. Very cool. Nine years old and produced, most likely, by a camera of lower megapixels, but still holding it's own with more modern photos.
