This image was taken at Kyoto, Japan, and is of Kinkaku-ji Temple. Also formally known as Rukoonji, and now also known as the Golden Pavilion (for obvious reasons), Kinkaku-ji is covered in 6 kg of gold. It was initially built in 1397 to be part of a residence for the retired shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. It was converted into a Zen Temple after the Shogun's death in 1408. Having been destroyed by fire set by a fanatic monk in 1950, it was rebuilt in 1955. It currently houses sacred Buddhist relics.

Lovely architecture, and the reflection in the water is captured well. Very serene.

What a place. Wouldn't I give my eye teeth for those trees! Beautifully captured composition. Reflections are as lovely as the actual Temple.

A really beautiful shot of an amazing scene. Those trees are delightful and the temple is wonderful to look at. Thanks for posting.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

I absolutely love being shown all these fantastic little heavens on earth. It's a little depressing because even when I do find the means to travel, I'll have to choose which to visit. This is a shot which sparks my motivation. Great work.
