Two locals stroll along one stretch of the 13.7 km ancient city wall of Xi'an. Built in the Tang Dynasty (618-707 a.d.) it stands 12 metres tall, with a base that is 18 metres thick. The top of the wall is also around 12 metres wide.

What great structures these are sitting in front of those more modern buildings in the background. Earlier peoples seemed to build their buildings with great care and with much artistry. These are so nice to look at with their blue designs of lapis perhaps?
Is that fog or smog that lingers over the city? Great post. Thanks.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

What a tremendous feeling of the size you have gotten into this picture! I love the way it fades into the distance and the size is accentuated by the figures. The atmosphere is wonderful - as of course are the buildings.

I remember being frustrated during my trip to China because of the dust that was constantly blowing around. In spite of the dust in your shot, it is ten times better than any of mine. Nice pic!

The dust in your shot makes the entire picture all the more powerful. The light is great.
And the almost empty vista, with just two figures, reveals the enormity of the old structure. Very fine.
