Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) was used traditionally in the Americas and later in Europe as a "calming" herb for anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and hysteria. It is still used today to treat anxiety and insomnia. Although scientists aren't sure, it is believed that passionflower works by increasing levels of a chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA lowers the activity of some brain cells, making you more relaxed. Just admiring its beauty seems to work for me. I grew these from seed in our 2010 garden. Thanks for viewing. Hope you enjoy!

Very nice capture of some unusual design in a flower. I like the color and contrast.

I have only seen one of these in person. It was growing wild in a field of sunflowers. Beautiful bloom and nicely captured.

People aren't going to remember the things you do. They're going to remember how you made people feel. Be kind, gracious, and appreciative. Dan Winters - Photographer.

Always thought these things were aliens, maybe it's not such a good idea to eat the orange pods?
Great shot, I was looking at one the other day, they are very common in LA. Thanks for sharing, faved ! :)
