From an original estmate of seven years to build at a cost of £473,000 work finally started in 1803 and was completed in 1822 with widening and strenghtening between 1843-47 at a final cost of £1,201,000 (out of which came £127 7s for whisky for men working the water) This is a shot of one of Thomas Telford's masterpieces Neptunes staircase.
