Above the town of Kalabaka, Greece is an area of massive rock formations called Meteora. Many hundreds of years ago communities of monks established monasteries atop these isolated pillers. All building materials and supplies had to be hauled up with ropes and slings. At one time there were as many as 24 of these communities; now there are only six. In recent times roads and bridges have been built so the facilities are now much more accessible. Visiting some of these monasteries and learning of their history was a highlight of our recent trip to Greece. I hope you will take a look at this picture and tell me what you think.

Wow, what a place to build a monastery. Wouldnt want to stumble out of the monastery in the middle of the night, or you might suddenly get a whole lot closer to god... Great photo, Linkin Park named an album after this place.

I've been there, those rocks are beautiful and it's a mistery how the monks managed to build the monasteries...

I was just there a week ago - did you have the chance to tour any of these? I believe this one is called "The Grand Meteoron". Nice shot.

Wow, what a great location for a house. Unlimited privacy, why? No neighbors whatsoever! Great job, learning about an areas history is always enlightening.
