yesterday at about noon by brother in-law called and said that a sailboat was stuck on the reef out in front. i watched them hustling around for awhile and took photos. i went back 2 hours later.....no change. i went back at night (high tide) no change. i'm going to go check it out now. the people on the beach think the underside of the boat will be ruined. the hawaiians are worried about their reef!

the water is a great combination of greens browns and blues, and the mountains ( volcanos, actually, no?) make a gorgeous backdrop.

A very interesting shot Jen. I love the different colors of the water which is because of the reef. Thanks for the story also ... I feel bad for the people that own the boat & also the native's. I know it doesn't take much to destroy coral & most places have protected coral reefs. Thanks for sharing.

Jen, not only is it an amazing photojournalistic moment, you've captured the excitement very well. The color saturation and composition are wonderful. Feels like we're there with you. Great job!!! anne :-) P.S. Trouble in Paradise? LOL

Shots like this only happen once in a lifetime. Superb capture. I'm amazed the boat is still together. Being a diver, I imagine the reef is in bad shape also. How sad for both.

Oh, that is interesting. That ain't no cheap sailboat either. I can see how the water changes color in numerous places, typical of a reef. Great action photo.

What a photo, even if the sailboat was not in the shot! The layers of color both in the water and mountains are amazing.

Now that’s a dramatic shot, you news photographer on the spot. I wonder why they didn’t use the anchor to kedge themselves off the reef? It’s not only a good shot of the moment but you got some real pretty colours in the water and some lovely light on the background trees. That’s very well done.
