we were at a rocky place where i took off to look for shells. all of a sudden one of the rocks started moving. guess what......it wasn't a rock, it was a monk seal. you may remember that last year i told you that they are a very endangered species. you will only see one if you're lucky. they come up out of the water to rest. sometimes people will think they're sick or dead........however, when they feel like it they slink back down in the water and take off. as a spectator you are expected not to bother, feed, touch or interfere with them. i was gone a long time and took pictures on beaches every day. this was the only one i saw. it probably weighed about 200 pounds.

What a wonderfully fortunate occurance, Jen! And you captured him so perfectly well. I"d be still fiddling with the settings on the camera while he slid away!

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

A fine shot. You were lucky he didn't grab you drag you into the sea and drown you...then eat you. Think of the great shots you would have gotten during that ordeal though.

I don't think he is very worried. He looks like he is about ready to drop his head back down on the rocks and resume his nap. Now me, I'd head for that pretty water. Nice capture. NTUN

He really does blend in with the rocks. What a great opportunity that you were able to find him and you did a fine job of capturing the rather wary expression on his face. Nice composition with the frothy ocean to add a bit of color in the background.
