the description credit goes to google. Mt. Waialeale("Rippling Water"), with a height of 5,148 feet (1,569 m), is a dissected (eroded) dome that is part of a central mountain mass which includes Kawaikini (5,243 feet [1,598 m]), . Shrouded in clouds, Waialeale is one of the world's wettest spots. Over a period of 32 years the average annual rainfall was 460 inches (11,685 mm), the highest in the world. In 1982, 666 inches (16,916 mm) of rain were recorded on the peak, establishing an official record. Only a few miles away, however, the rainfall drops dramatically to only 10 inches (250 mm) a year.

Wow, that's lots of plush greenery. It must rain a lot there.

amazing Jen that so much rain falls in one place - I expect it is because the clouds cling to the top of the mountain - no wonder it is so green! lovely photo! Patti

thanks to all who have written so far. in all the years i've been visiting kauai this is really the first time i've hiked to a place where you could see waialeale. the typical way to see it is by helicopter. it sits in the center of the island. several rivers begin up there. jen

Boy could we use some of that rain here in Colorado. We have been in kind of a dought for the past eight years. With the measly amount of rain we got this year, we are 11 inches behind right now. Wonderful image and very well composed Jeenie. Keep up the good work.

The name ChuPat is derived from my nickname Chuck and my wife of 34 years name Patti. Her photography will appear on Caedes as well from time to time. I consider myself an advanced amature not anyway close to being a professional. I have just taken photography more seriously since I have switched to digital. My profession has always been associated with pohtography in one way or another. Any criticism I receive will be well appreciated.

WOW, Jen ... this is truly powerful. Of course, all the technical elements are well done and the image is stunning. That rainfall per year is unbelievable - no wonder it's so lush!

Show me your greens? This photo covers many variations of greenery. The low clouds force your view back down to the greens. Good photo.

I wonder what it is about the topography that would account for the differences in rainfall amounts in such a short distance. There's a lot of chlorophyll being produced in this spot! Wonderfully vegatative mountain. Those coulds must be the ones that drop all the rain. :)

Lovely picture.
Greener than green, do not can be green.
Wetter than wet, do not can be wet.
I find greenness terribly nicely, but that wet weather, now no, me not seen.
