as many of you know i am on a quest to learn to photograph butterflies. i just don't know how i can be so bad at it. yesterday, i went to the botanical gardens (where they have a monarch butterfly enclosure) to practice. i went too late because after 15 minutes they kicked me out. then there was time for a late afternoon stroll. as i was getting ready to leave i noticed that the sun would be setting soon so i hung around hoping for something good............... probably lots of you know that arizona sunsets are spectacular. sometimes it's night after night. here's a view i think you'll enjoy. i'm not the only one because as i was driving home the radio announcer said, "wow! did you see that sunset?"

Now why is it that Arizona is privy to such spectacular sunsets? Is it the heat? This is fabulous, Jen, just like out of a picture book about Arizona.

You captured some gorgeous colors for us to feast our eyes on Jen! You are so right, y'all have the market on sunsets, that is for sure! Don't get too discouraged about butterflies. It takes lots and lots of patience and lots and lots of shots! I was at the Butterfly House 2 weeks ago and out of 250 images, maybe 1% were even worth a second look. Some days are just not good for shooting butterflies. I sure don't know why! I look forward to seeing your captures though. Thanks for sharing your sunset with us ;=)

You've made me 'visitor-sick' Jen. I believe that next to Texas ;) Arizona has the prettiest sunsets and you just confirmed it. Made my reservation and coming to see some ;) (Thanksgiving). This is a spectacular presentation with perfect composition, clarity and awesome color. Thanks so much for sharing it.

Sometimes it is good to get kicked out of places. Excellent photo. Caedes is one of the few places you can get great sunrises and sunsets on a daily basis.

It is spectacular and you've done it justice Jen. I used to live in Phoenix for a couple years so I know exactly what you're talkin' about. I love your composition here. What's the odd red glow on the cactus from? They look like they're lined with neon lights. LOL Thanks for sharing this great memory. Keep going back for your butterflies - I know you'll get some outstanding shots with your talent and equipment. anne :-)

Don't tell me it's good, tell me what is good about it. Don't tell me it stinks, tell me what I can do do improve it. Thank you for taking the time to tell me anything at all. Be blessed. anne :-)

When I see sunsets like this, and thanks for sending it to us, it's about the only time I miss Arizona...well, that's not quite true, but I lived in Phoenix, and they have the most pollution ergo the best sunsets :) I certainly do NOT miss the 115 degree weather in the summer, but I do miss the springs when the flowers light up the desert floors and the evenings when the sky becomes its own firework show...thanks :)PJ

Sometimes, bad things (getting booted out of the exhibit b/4 shooting the butterflies) happen for good reasons (catching the sunset). You made lemonade out of lemons that day m'dear and with glowing results! Gorgeous!

wow. that is incredible...absolutely incredible. amazing colors. and the clouds are beautiful too. my only complaint...is that i wish that there was less of the greenery there...and more of the mountains in the background. otherwise....amazing, you really did a great job! ~abby

Ahhh. You're breaking my heart. I spent many summers here with my dad collecting specimens (lizards) for his doctoral dissertation. Spent entire summers camping in the southwest deserts of Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and southern California. What a gorgeous photo. Thanks for sharing it.

Damn, that's one smokin' image!! Very dramatic!! It does have a slight "hazy" to it, perhaps a tweek here 'n' there could make it even more dramatic?? Do you check your levels & curves on ever photo? I'm again assuming, which I shouldn't, that you use a form of Photoshop.
