on the left side of the photo you see the mortuary temple of queen hatshepsut. behind the temple is a mountain wall which separates the temple from the valley of the kings. if you enlarge the shot you can see that the valley of the kings seems to be riddled with holes. these are the entrances to the tombs which go way back into the mountains. i think that you'll this photograph best when you look at it BIG so you can see the stuff i'm mentioning. any questions, just ask. i'll try to come up with an answer. thanks for your comments in advance.

Absolutely amazing shot! I'm guessing that you were in a balloon too! What a great opportunity this was, Jen! I'm so glad you went and I can't wait for more images!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Oh I would join you :) Many years since I 'went up' but I will never forget it - so calm and quiet, and not a bit scary if you dont think about it too much :)
This is one terrific shot - wonderful detail and a spectacular wide view.

Very nice shot Jen. I like the comp and the lovely spread of light on it. The blues are a bit distraction to me thought.

This photo has gone right into my favorites. I love the way the sun is hitting the peaks, and the other balloon just adds that nice bit of colour. At first when I saw it, I thought of the ReMax balloon (a realtor service). Thanks for posting!

Terrific angle, makes it easier to understand the genius of Senmut (the architect for Hatshepsut) than the usual dead-on close-up view. Thanks!

Hi Jen, so glad you had a good trip and that you did the balloon flight. What a stunning shot!! Just love those shadows on the mountains. Did you see the houses with no roofs while you were up there?

Cheers! Ray.

Absolutely fantastic shot. I went there in 1987. Hottest place I've ever been to - it was 55 degrees celsius!
We didn't have the chance of a balloon ride in those days - oh, you lucky thing! Beautiful shot, very very well done!
