i had always thought of a hyenas as underfed skinny animals. the african hyenas we saw were all plump and healthy like this one. when they're not eating and scavenging they like to hang out in the cool damp mud, hence the mud on this one's back. this animal is a resident of the serengeti plains in tanzania (east africa). this and most all of the animal pictures were taken with a 70-300 mm lens. having the 100-400 mm lens would have been oh so nice. thanks in advance for your comments. enjoy!

These animals amaze me with their ferocity. I always cheer when a lion finally gets one. Nice capture.

Jen, although you used a 70 - 300 lens, think this hyena was pretty near. Wonderful capture, the more we don't often see images at Caedes from that part of the world. Thanks for posting & regards, Cornelius

I'm surprised that he is even in 300mm range since he is not captive, but I know what you mean about having that extra 100mm sometimes, maybe even more! He is interesting to look at to say the least with his little tuft of red hair and he does look well fed. Thanks for bringing him for us to see, Jen.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes
