"St. Mary's Lighthouse is on the tiny St. Mary's Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. The small rocky tidal island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at periods of high tide. While it no longer functions as a working lighthouse, it is easily accessible (when the tide is out) and is open to visitors."...................... if you look at other shots of st. mary's in the perms. you will notice a difference. this one was taken at high tide. in this one you don't see rocks or pilings. you will note all the water and the fact that the causeway is covered by the sea. thanks for any comments. ENJOY!

Crystal clear shot, Jen. I think I remember Owd Bob posting a link to the story of this great lighthouse. Beautiful shot, Jen. One of your very best.

A beautiful & colorful capture Jen. I believe this is the first one I've seen of this lighthouse at high tide. You caught the water perfectly too. Outstanding!

i love this view of the lighthouse, did you get to cross or was the tide high all the time you were there, we used to holiday at whitley bay when we were kids and i have done a painting of this view but with the causeway showing rather than the sea. gotta stick it in my faves too.

A wonderful collection of buildings taken from a great angle Jen. Its nearness to the mainland and the fact that it is no longer a working lighthouse reminds me of my favourite Perch Rock Lighthouse. A great lighthouse shot and straight to faves.

Wow jen really nice picture. It is really a beautiful place. I did googled for some image and saw that the walk way gets submerged sometimes in the water! at high times as you said. One pic showed people still walking through when there is a high tide. Must be a enjoyable and memorable moment!

Thanks jen for sharing the picture!

Looking at this I'm struck by what it would feel like to be all snug in that house. You could do all the things you'd normally do at home without even being aware that you were on this tiny scrap of land, it all looks so homely and normal. Like a tiny village. I love this shot, breaking the rules and centring the island was a great idea, and the classic nautical colours of red blue and white really sparkle.
