Here's the story. We were on our way to the river and we passed a shack. 2 men were there. They were road workers having a beer. They told us to come over and look at their visitors. There were 2 anacondas who might just hang out in the shack. I decided that I had to hold one. So the locals helped me and I did. It was beautiful and smooth, very heavy and not at all slimy. What I didn't know is that anacondas put off the most awful smell to keep predators away. Needless to say I almost passed out it smelled so terrible. Fortunately, someone had wipes. It was thrilling. Thanks in advance for any comments or looks. ENJOY!

Better you than me! I never would have gotten to experience the smell for I would have been passed out on the pavement long before I could get near one of these. Fabulous shot and he arranged himself so tidily to accommodate the dimensions of your frame! lol

I've never held an Anaconda, but I did hold a Boa Constictor once. Their skin is really smooth & I've heard with some large snakes they need to bask in the sun hot sun everyday ... like this one appears to be doing. Love how it's scaley skin shines. Excellent capture, Jen.

People are like cameras--sometimes they lose focus.
I noticed a repulsive stench on a garter snake when I was kid, Jen. I guess the smell is not unique to anacondas & may be common. I have no particular phobia regarding non-poisonous snakes but I will say the smell was enough to keep me from handling them so I guess it works. ...Ed

Oh wow, he's beautiful, no snakes are not slummy but coo to the touch. Fantastic close up and detail. I use to catch snakes around our house years ago.
