I was sure of this until I read that they were small. Now, I'm thinking it might be a Savannah Hawk.. I've checked and checked. Maybe if one of you is interested you can see what you can find out. Thanks in advance for any looks and comments. ENJOY!

A very good close up, they will usually fly off so you did good to capture this one, not sure just what kind he is though. You even caught the glint in his eye. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Savannah Hawks are maybe a little redder in colour,It's possibly a Ferruginous Hawk but those bare legs say no.The Ferruginous Hawk is a native in your area the Savannah,I think is more South America..It may even be a red shouldered hawk...It's a great picture whatever it is..R.

The coloration says maybe even Cooper's Hawk to me, but the way the bird looks, overall, reminded me of a picture I saw labeled common black hawk (the pattern of the markings on the breast and the way the lighter color shows through on the wings). Whatever it is, it is a beautiful capture. The red-shouldered hawk picture I saw looked whiter in the breast, so I don't think that is what it is...but then there is probably some color variation among birds...not sure what kind of hawk it is. Be interesting to see if that tail is red or not on the other side.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Very nice image, with great management of the DOF, even if for me your picture is not enough sharp seeing in full screen. Composition is also great.
