I'm with Thad... a stack of disks... the curves lines and the two vertical lines near the center are the giveaway (the holes in the center). A great idea (if we're right) and image (even if we're not), one just right for my desktop, thanks.
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
Had to wait some time to comment, Laura, in order to think somewhat longer what this could be. The result is a headache and no solution now, ☺ ☺ ☺ . Proves anyhow that your capture meets perfectly the current contest topic.

At first, I had convinced myself that this was a macro shot of the side of a glass vase for flowers. Given your shooting proclivities and as evidenced by your personal galleries chockful of gorgeous flowers.
It was only after closer examination that what I thought could be condensation drops, revealed the "drops" to be pitting or imperfections.
Well, I was all ready to jump on the "it's a stack of cd discs" bandwagon, until purmusic pointed out that he believes it to be pitting instead of moisture. So unless you chew on your discs the way that some people chew on pens ... now I'm not sure?
I really don't know but it looks like a close up of the side of one of those 'slinky' spring toys. Although I also think it may be something in the innards of a car engine about which I know noting, It seems to have oil on it. It a great entry whatever it is :)
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
