I consider myself lucky to get a shot of this magnificent monarch fueling up on these lovely purple flowers. I would imagine by now he is making the migrating journey to Mexico. The numbers of monarchs have increased this year and that's a very good thing. Kindly Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Perfect capture of this Monarch, Laura.
Think that consuming sufficient nectar is a preparation for its long flight to Mexico.
S+F of course. Thanks, my friend!

Good shot, Laura. I can just make out the scales of color in its wings. There is an odd-looking bottom edge to its wings, however, that make me wonder if part of the b'fly is from another photo, probably taken at the same time, of the same fly and the same flowers? That's alright if it is (this is NOT a critical criticism)--I do that myself, occasionally blending several photos to get just the right image--but, as I say, if it is a blend, you may want to double-check for, and remove, things like that odd stripe hanging off the bottom end of his right interior wing. It appears to be an accidental brushing from a cloning project. Just a thought. By the way, did you know that monarchs are one of the ways to predict the severity of an upcoming winter? If they migrate south earlier and in greater numbers, it means you're in for a tough winter.

Happy Trails

Beautiful capture of my favorite butterfly, and I have heard that more people are planting milkweed, and the numbers are increasing. I think what Nik mentioned might be a damaged wing? tigs=^..^=

A damaged wing? I didn't think of that. That's what happens when surfing Caedes at 4:30 a.m. ;oP

-Nik

I just took a closer look and Sandi's right--it's a tear in the wing. Hmmm... I thought photographers were supposed to be observant? Must be getting old. 8oE. Sorry, Laura.

-Nik (still, again, embarrassed)
