Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

Looks like some HDR post-photo, which I think can be very good on some pictures, this being one of them. The road at the right maybe should have been massively blurred to equalize the color some, but the rest of the pic becomes very exciting with this treatment. And a good original photo, of course!
