Gullfoss - the Golden Waterfall - is part of the "Golden Circle", the tour that most tourists seem to take when they visit Iceland. When they go, however, it's usually in the middle of the day so poor lighting, and more often than not it's the quick photo snaps they're after. Fair enough, but I was after a little more, so spend a total of 21 hours there, staying overnight, and thus was able to get up at 4am again and watch the sun rising towards me literally straight down the waterfall. Golden it was. I spend a frantic half hour running round taking photos whilst the light remained right, this was one of them, hidden away from most people, I simply went a little off from the roped path...and did some exploring. The thundering sound of this tiny (ha!) part of a massive waterfall coupled with the deep shadow and contrasted with the blazing golden sun coming through the spray over the fall kept me in this one place longer than any other. By the time other people started arriving around 9am, the golden colour was gone.

Art is the perception of the creator. Meaning is the perception of the viewer. acceptance is the perception of society.

this is BEAUTIFUL! I love the colors and the motion of the water, it looks so smooth. It looks feathery in some areas too where the water is splashing up, a very soft look for water! Adding this one to faves! Great capture, you were truly lucky to witness this! That golden light contrasts beautifully with the blue green water. well done!

curious as to how long you left the shutter open for!
