An old 2003 image of the Mississippi River in New Madrid Missouri home of the New Madrid Fault Line. The Mississippi Valley-"Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" In the winter of 1811-12, the central Mississippi Valley was struck by three of the most powerful earthquakes in U.S. history. Even today, this region has more earthquakes than any other part of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains. Government agencies, universities, and private organizations are working to increase awareness of the earthquake threat and to reduce loss of life and property in future shocks.

Hi, Joseph. Greetings from Alaska, home of the second largest earthquake ever recorded in world history (1964). We account for approximately 11% of the world's earthquakes and 52% of all earthquakes in the U.S.. Alaska has more seismicity than any other region in North America and is by far the most seismically active state in the U.S.. We average about 24,000 earthquakes a year. Alaskans know how to rock-n-roll! For those of you who have never experienced an earthquake ... they're a trip.

I love the stark contrast of the lit window in the dark room. Caught my eye right away. I think I would have liked it more if there had been something like soft sheer curtains blowing around the window (the more dramatically, the better). First, blowing sheers suggest movement. And I associate earthquakes with movement. But also because curtains ... interject the impression of humanity. They are a very human touch, framing a view of the jaws of a violent, merciless fault.

Keep up the good work! :)

The thumbnail caught my eye, it has that kind of impact. I dont disagree with the previous comment but I like it the way it is. We have a peaceful scene through the window and the mind can run wild about whats in the room. Excellent.
