I looked up at the sky a couple of weeks ago and saw this rainbow running through the clouds. You couldn't see it anywhere else except these clouds. I couldn't resist sharing the experience since I've never seen anything like this before. Hope you enjoy it.

I love those clouds. I see them quite often. Note that the colors are inverted from an ordinary rainbow. I don't know the name of the phenomenon, but it's formed from the sun hitting ice crystals in clouds at a particular altitude and angle to the sun. I usually see it in late afternoon, early evening, when the sun is closing in on the horizon.

Very cool shot. So....you spend a lot of time staring into the sky? Maybe you should run for office, you would make a good politician.

A fantastic shot Jackie ... I have never seen a rainbow within the clouds before. I really love those wispy clouds. Very nicely done.

Friends are like shining stars. You may not always see them, but you know they are always there for you.

Awesome Jackie. Love the way the subtle rainbow intertwines with those gorgeous clouds. Well done.

There was a similar shot posted a month or so ago, and I believe one commenter said the phenomenon was called a "sun dog". I love this sort of thing. Thanks!

I've never seen this before! Great capture, not only of the clouds but such an elusive rainbow!

You were fortunate indeed to capture one of these sundogs..I've seen them, but never had a camera at hand when I did. No one ever believes me, but now I have this beauty to show. It makes a wonderful desktop and is soothing to boot. I spend a lot of time looking up too, so I guess I'll have to ask you to include me on the ballot at the polls :))))) PJ
