Thought I would bring everyone back to the old courthouse for a peek at was was under the tower. The part you didnt see! This is the old Minnehaha County Courthouse turned museum. It was originally completed in 1893, but was restored and reopened as a museum in 1974. As you can see it was built out of the same Sioux Quartzite stone as many of the older buildings in this area were. Among many other things it features 16 wall murals painted between 1915 and 1917. Thanks for taking a look everyone! Appreciate any and all comments!

That's quite a courthouse. Very intriguing architecture. I like it's name. Sounds like some indian influence in there. Good post.

Ya'll have some pretty nice lighting effects going on there..someone on the city council must have a degree in lighting up buildings.. or art.. well, anyway, I'm glad to see that they take the time and money to bring some holiday lights to everyone.....and I don't even have to pay the taxes there..whadda deal :) You do seem to have a thing for courthouses, as I remember the Lincoln County Courthouse in Canton as well...I hope this doesn't mean you know the occupants personally..unless this is where your sheriff's office is located..lol..nice shot, Dan :)PJ

The colors and clarity are really nice on this building. I'm glad you posted the whole building. It was definitely worth a post. I like the way they light it up with the green lights. Very nice to look at.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

This is such a grand building Dan and the architecture is amazingly beautiful. You have done an excellent job of showing us around your town at night when the lights seem to make everything look so magical and mystical. Excellent post!
