When asked "Where are your lands now?" Crazy Horse pointed and said: "My lands are where my dead lie buried." This is the Crazy Horse Memorial located near Custer, South Dakota in the beautiful Black Hills. Taken through the glass of the museum and sculptors studio there shows the finished sculpture in the foreground and the one in progress on the mountain itself. Both are done by Korzack Ziolkowski (1908-1982) with work being carried on by his family on the mountain. To read more about this amazing sculpture, and the amazing story behind it go to www.crazyhorse.org. Work on the mountain began back in 1948 and continues with only the help of private funds. No government or taxpayer dollars are used. C):-)

amazing Daniel! I am just wondering how many hours they have spent creating the sculpture in the rockface already - what dedication! Excellent capture with the two sculptures in parallel with each other!

Wonderful capture Dan. It's nice to see the statue & sculpture side by side. I visited the Black Hills back in 1981 & I can remember the beautiful scenery like it was yeaterday. For some reason we were unable to see Crazy Horse. The colors & clarity are spectacular. Very nicely done.

Oh yes...I remember a story about this a while ago and I'm glad that you brought it to the fore again.

Such an amazing piece of work and so apropos.

Nice juxtaposition.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

I see they have the face completed now...Last time I was there, they had only the eyes and nose showing...I like the fact that they don't want the government in there, like at nearby Rushmore...Thanks for sharing!

Looks great Mr. Dillon. It looks like they still have a lot to do. Such dedication is admirable. Wish there was more of it around. Great idea with the model in foreground.

OH my...I didn't see this one right away..in your gallery . This is just fantastic Dan. I will totally love having a bit of my home stomping grounds on my desktop...You took a great photo of this wonderful sculpture. Wish they could do more and faster, but what a huge undertaking. Nicely done Dan..verena
