Low-key Caedes Design (3/3)

With some help from my wife (she has worked with webdesign) I played around in illustrator and came up with this rather low-key design. I really like the current design of the site. I used many of the existing element in a slightly new way that fit my own personal sense of aestheticism. My main aim with the design is to make it easy on the eye, easy to load even on a slower connection and in front of anything else I want the images here on caedes.net to be in focus for the viewer and not the design of the site. :) I hope some like it. My last version of this design. I just felt that it would be nice to try and apply it on something else than just the front-page. Like allways I put a ridiculous amount of time in the project of doing this series... ^_^ It was not put together in half an hour, that's for sure... Well, for a first time working with Illustrator I feel quite happy with the result.

I really like this - I have been looking at the designs on offer, and although all have a variety of great effects and beauty, I cant help agreeing that the posted images should outweigh the background design in a visual sense.
My fav bit - the white background - easy on these older eyes;
My least fav bit - the little lines at the edge of the image - I find them distracting.
Plus I think speed of loading is a major key to the site's success.
great job.

Very nice Klas. I like the simplicity of it. Not sure I agree with mum42 about the lines, I think you would need some sort of border to the image. Maybe dots would be less distracting? Anyway this would work well.

Thank you guys for the comments. :) I understand what you mean about the lines mum42. I use the crop marks to create some space in the design and to draw attention to the image. Without them the design feels more empty for me. I tried to make them lighter after your comment so the shade of grey is similar to the darker areas of the "triplet" caedes spider in the logo. It looks good that way too IMHO. Maybe it's better that way. Maybe it's better to take it away. I think it looks really good the way it is in caedes current design.

Sam, I tried different kinds of crop marks too but this version is by far the most discreet one.

I apriciate the comment from you too Sam Gerdt since I know you work with these kind of things. This is a first time for me trying to design a sites layout. Quite a lot of fun. :)

I really like this site design. It certainly doesn't take away from the works, as it's a pretty neutral color. :o) I like that a lot. Way to go.

Awsome job. I like the upload time thing, and the lines around the picture frame it very well.

If it were any less reliable, it would be called a ford

Thanks for the comments! I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I'll maybe make a shot at reworking it slightly... We'll see.

I think this site takes the award for presentation. I think this layout isn't anything bold, bright, and that's good. A lot of these designs are so different from the original one that they miss the overall idea: the major graphic of the page should be the desktop background thumbnail, considering this is a desktop background site.

I think that left pane of the layout could be filled with some kind of content (quick upload, an integrated discussion board) and that the "cream" side panes could be a little more opaque and a little more colorful. A little color enhancement goes a long way.

Good work!

Thank you so much for the input. That's just what I need! :) I have no chance to improve if people don't give some constructive criticism. I was allmost going to give up trying to work on the design but now I think I'll maybe give it a go soon. I've been terribly busy lately but it's slowly getting better. I'm not sure about the integrated discussion board but it's a good idea...
